All hail Reverend Elijah Craig!

On this day in 1789, the first whiskey distilled from corn was produced by an American clergyman — Rev. Elijah Craig. It was named Bourbon because Rev. Craig lived in Bourbon County, Kentucky. In honor of the Baptist distilling pioneer, here’s a bold bourbon garlic marinade — perfect for a summer backyard BBQ.

Bourbon Garlic Marinade

¼ cup Bourbon
4 garlic cloves, chopped
1 T. fresh ginger, grated
1 T. black pepper
1 t. red pepper flakes
¼ c. soy sauce
¼ c. brown sugar
1 t. Worcestershire sauce
¼ c olive oil

Mix all ingredients together. This recipe makes enough marinade for 4 steaks or chops. Marinate steaks for 8-12 hours, lighter meats 4-6 hours. For seafood, 30 minutes is sufficient.
