Who’s Allergic to Garlic?

Tiger Woods, who turned 36 today, is allergic to garlic. Woods kept a lot of secrets from his ex-wife Elin Nordegren. Most, if not all, backfired.

He had to forego playing in the 2003 BellSouth Classic after the pasta with garlic Nordegren served him caused severe digestive problems. He apparently never told her that he was allergic to garlic. This would turn out to be the least of their problems.

A memo obtained by The Smoking Gun lists Wood’s food and beverage preferences when flying. It includes the following CRITICAL NOTE: Mr. Tiger Woods is allergic to garlic per updated owner profile.

Apparently less critical, a note on the bottom of the sheet references an airport operations report: Recent intel indicates potential for terrorist attack on transportation — but I digress …

Needless to say, Tiger Woods is unlikely to have a favorite garlic recipe. This recipe for Papaya Salad comes from Chef Pitak Srichan at the Four Seasons Chiang Mai — the favorite hotel of Tiger’s one-time mistress, Rachel Uchitel. (Payback’s a bitch).

Papaya Salad

2 c. green papaya, shredded or julienned

1/3 c. ground roasted peanut
s
1/2 c. palm (or brown) sugar

1/4 c. green beans

2-3 bird’s eye chillies

1/2 c. lime juice

7 cloves of garlic

1/3 c. fish sauce

1/4 c. dried shrimp

1/4 c. cherry tomatoes
2 cucumbers

Pound the garlic, chillies, dried shrimp and peanuts.
Add the lime juice, fish sauce and palm sugar and mix.
Add the papaya, long beans, cherry tomatoes and chillies and pound lightly. Serve with sliced cucumbers.
